Lemon Grove Patch’s resident man of the arts can be seen live on KPBS tomorrow as he hosts Il Volo Takes Flight, a one-hour special featuring the voices of the Italian teen tenor trio.
Corky Lang, who casts his eye on Lemon Grove with his A Slice of the Lemon column, has been exercising his talent as an on-air host of KPBS since last fall. A longtime actor, he was instrumental in founding the Fritz Theatre in San Diego.
Locally, Lang took to the stage last summer in the Lemon Grove Theatre Guild revival performing a dramatic reading of On the Loose in Baja, based on the writings of Amorita Treganza, the guild’s co-founder, and in its production of the melodrama He Ain’t Done Right by Nell.
A world traveler, Lang is a popular travel director who has lead groups on tours in more than 30 countries.
Il Volo Takes Flight will air at 8 p.m. Tuesday on KPBS. The teenage tenors are national heartthrobs in their country, having won a popular Italian talent show by dazzling television viewers with their version of O Sole Mio. The group’s name, Il Volo, means flight.
Since then, they’ve appeared on American Idol, The Tonight Show, Ellen, The Today Show, Good Morning America and Entourage. They will appear live in the KPBS studio with Lang throughout the broadcast.
The special was filmed at Detroit’s famed Opera House on Oct. 27, 2011.
