WHO ARE THEY: Consisting of members Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble, Il Volo is an Italian pop opera trio that formed in 2009. The singers met on the Italian music show “Ti lascio una canzone,” where Ginoble wound up taking home the grand prize. In November 2010, Il Volo released its debut self-titled album. It was an immediate hit, debuting at No. 10 on the Billboard 200 and selling more than 23,000 copies in its first week on the charts. The group went on to perform on “American Idol” and released the single “O Sole Mio.”
WHAT TO EXPECT: American audiences will be familiar with Il Volo from the group’s performances on “American Idol,” “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” and “Good Morning America.” The Italian pop opera trio will be performing its hit single “Ole Sole Mio” along with other songs from its platinum-selling debut album.
