"It's going to be a surprise, because it's so (varied)," the group's Ignazioi Boschetto tells Billboard. "It has classical moments and pop moments. For the most part it's new songs," although the set will also have some classic Italian pieces, just like 2010's "Il Volo." "For the most part it's new songs," Boschetto says. "People will hear them and say, 'This is Il Volo. This is their song.' "
The set is tentatively due out in November and was again produced by Ron Fair.
The "Il Volo" album topped the Classical Crossover Albums chart and No. 10 on the Billboard 200, selling 229,000 copies to date according to Soundscan. The Spanish edition, "Il Volo: Edicion En Espanol," hit No. 2 Classical Crossover and has sold 64,000 copies, while the subsequent "Christmas Favorites" EP was another Classical Crossover No. 1 in 2001 and has sold 10,000 copies. "Il Volo...Takes Flight: Live From the Detroit Opera House" has moved 46,000 copies in the U.S. since its release in February.
The group is in the midst of a North American headlining tour that wraps up Oct. 2 in Seattle; six days later the group hits the road with Barbra Streisand for six shows as both opening act and special guests during her performances.
"That for us is very exciting," Boschetto says. "Our manager is a big fan of hers, so I started to know about her because of him, and then I got many CDs of hers...and I love her. We met her at (the recording session for) 'We Are the World (25 For Haiti)' in 2010. She's nice. I think that two years ago I was in my room playing PlayStation or with my friends playing (soccer). Now I'm here. We are having this big tour with Barbra Streisand, and we are going to sing with her. So I think the right words are that the dream is coming true."
