O Holy Night! Il Volo Sings Christmas Classics A Cappella
"Everyone knows that the most famous Christmas songs are the American ones," Il Volo member Piero Barone, 20, says during an exclusive interview with Yahoo Music.
Piero is explaining why he and his Il Volo brethren Ignazio Boschetto, 19, and Gianluca Ginoble, 18, who are all Italian, decided to cover American holiday classics for their new record with an Italian title, "Buon Natale: The Christmas Album."
During their recent visit to the Yahoo studios, the talented trio sang snippets of three of their new tracks, "O Holy Night," "White Christmas," and "Santa Claus is Coming to Town."
Ignazio said "O Holy Night" was the first song they picked for the record. "It's a classical song," he said. "Personally, I first heard it from Celine Dion version, then [Luciano] Pavarotti. I was in shock the first time I heard that song. … Then when we were talking about the album, we decided, 'We got to sing that song.'"
Though the group released the four-song "Christmas Favorites" EP in 2011, Gianluca said these new recordings would make more special their holiday family get-togethers. "We should sing Christmas songs so we can enjoy our music during the Christmas season," he said.
Il Volo also discusses a few other subjects during the interview. Piero explains why their style is classified as "operatic pop" and not "opera." Ignazio opens up about his noticeable weight loss.
Plus, each member recalls the moment a family member discovered they could sing like "45 year-old" men.
