Il Volo—Italy’s Three Young Tenors—Announce Tour with Barbara Streisand
Italy’s teenage tenor trio Il Volo announced on the Sunday RaiDue program “Quelli che il Calcio” that they will tour America with Barbara Streisand this fall. The award-winning American singer and actress invited the trio to become an integral part of her show, singing duets with her and performing on their own.
Ignazio Boschetto, Piero Barone, and Gianluca Ginoble have been charming audiences in Italy since they sang together in 2009 on the RaiDue talent show program “Ti lascio una canzone” (I leave you a song). After their first album sold 600,000 copies in just four months, they went on to appear on American Idol and release their album in the U.S., where it hit number one on the Billboard American Classical Album chart.
Though the group is best known for their rendition of the classic Neapolitan song “O Sole Mio”, group member Gianluca Ginoble told Italy Magazine’s Katia Amore last fall, “[We’re] not the three young tenors that go to America to sing Neapolitan songs.”. The trio toured North America in fall of 2011 to support their first album, featuring a mix of classical, traditional, and new songs, including two by multiplatinum songwriter Diane Warren.
This summer, they’ll be touring North America again with stops in Boston, Chicago, Miami, Montreal, New York, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and other major cities. Dates and locations for the tour with Barbara Streisand are still to be announced.
