Il Volo, the three young flying high

They have toured with Barbra Streisand and sung with Placido Domingo, Eros Ramazzotti and many other artists. I recently did a tribute to Jose Jose at the Latin Billboard Music Awards. They sing in Spanish, English, Italian and other languages, and the genre they play is a lyrical pop. They are Piero Barone (19 years), Gianluca Ginoble (18) and Ignazio Boschetto (18), who form the Italian trio Il Volo. Their voices surprise even the most knowledgeable of this genre. These three boys reach the hearts of adults and youth and talent has been recognized not only in his native Italy and the rest of Europe. They also revolutionized Latin America with their voices and unique look.
From New York, United States, ready to start promoting their second album, We Are Love and the international version of Mas Que Amor, they granted a telephone interview exclusively for this Journal [El Universo]. The interview was only with Gianluca, but in the span of the interview Ignazio and Piero joined, making this a more dynamic talk.
Why the name Il Volo (The Flight)?
Gianluca: It is a metaphorical name, pronunciation is very simple and also because music makes us fly and travel a lot and live on airplanes. I think it's a perfect name for us.
How did you meet and where did the idea come together to make this musical trio?
In an Italian talent show (2009). It was a program of singers, children, I was 14 and also Ignazio and Piero, 15. We met there and decided to get the fourth episode together. We sang individually and then the producer decided to raise their voices. From the time we are together.
Why did you decide to sing in Spanish?
Because it is a language that we love! Thanks also to Humberto Gatica, who is our producer, learned and started hearing all that is Latin music and Latin culture. We decided to sing in Spanish with songs like Historia de Un Amor or El Reloj, a true love because we love it, is a very romantic language.
How were the collaborations you have done with other artists such as Belinda, Placido Domingo and Eros Ramazzotti?
It was amazing to sing with Belinda. She's the Latin pop princess, was a pleasure. We believe that the voices were perfect for the song called Constantemente Mia, which is one of the most romantic songs of our album. And with Placido Domingo was an honor, learned a lot, is one of the greatest tenors in the world and is our idol and singing with your idol is priceless, is an amazing thing. And also with Eros Ramazzotti, who is one of the most famous Italian singers have Europe. He is very funny. Has 50 years, but like I was 20 (laughs).
You recently did a tribute to Jose Jose at the Latin Billboard Music Awards. How did they live that moment? Why did you decide to do?
We decided with the Billboard Latin producer and our producer, Humberto Gatica. I think it's one of the most beautiful songs that we recorded in our life (El Triste), is a wonderful song, sing to him was a unique emotion. He was shaking, almost crying, and we also when we were singing on stage. The most beautiful moment was when we embrace at the end of the song.
This is when they enter the room Ignazio and Piero, and add to the interview between greetings, introductions and laughter.
What experiences so far of his career marked the most?
Gianluca: The greatest experience for us was to tour with Barbra Streisand. We made twelve concerts in the U.S. and Canada, then do the duets with Placido Domingo, Eros Ramazzotti and Belinda. We also We Are The World for Haiti with Quincy Jones, Lionel Richie and all the great artists.
What do you think is the reason for your success?
Ignazio: Because it's the first time young people as we sing this genre. There are several groups and artists who sing pop lyric, but are adults, like Il Divo or Andrea, big artist like Bochelli. We can sing in a more fresh and new because we are young and voices are different.
