“Il Volo,“ The Three Young Tenors from Italy, Spark Fashion Trend: Review

After winning a music competition on an Italian TV show in 2009, three young Italian teenagers have turned the pop-opera music world upside down, (not to mention millions of young girl’s hearts) and have ignited the fashion world with their style.

“Il Volo,” which translates to “The Flight,” is currently the hottest Italian singing group; gaining momentum akin to the Beatles.  They are the first Italian artists to sign with Geffen Records. Made up of three of the most talented young men on the planet, these adorable heartthrobs are wooing young and old alike with their astonishing voices. Listen to them sing, “O Sole Mio,” and if it doesn’t bring tears to your eyes, you will at least become the latest fan of pop-opera.

Gianluca Ginoble is the handsome one. Some say he reminds one of an Italian version of Bobby Sherman. The combination of drop-dead good looks and vocal cords to match is pretty incredible for someone born in 1995.

Ignazio Boschetto is the burly one with the face of a cherub. I don’t think any cherub had a voice as amazing as this 17 year old’s. Mamma Mia! What power, range and expression!

Piero Barone is the studious retro-nerdy-chic one. He may have the most unbelievable voice of all. It is his sporting of big red nerdy glasses and vests which have created the fashion buzz. Check out who is replicating his fashion sense in the slideshow.

How are people duplicating the look? Those big geeky glasses can be spotted on young hipsters everywhere. Where to find these funky nerd specs? Spend a lot at the optician, spend a little at the antique shop. I found a few pair of vintage glasses for as little as $6.00 at the local antique dealer.  The way to wear them? As an accessory without lenses. Yes. An accessory like earrings or a bracelet.

23,000 copies of  Il Volo’s “O Sole Mio” sold the first week the cd was available in the United States. Now you see why the nerd look rules, (not to mention three adorable Italian teenagers with voices like nectar from the Gods.)
