Il Volo to play Westchester County Center in White Plains

The operatic teen trio of Il Volo will headline an Oct. 18 show at the Westchester County Center in White Plains.
After Gianluca Ginoble won a televised Italian singing competition in 2009, he teamed up with two contestants, Piero Barone and Ignazio Boschetto, to form the group now known as Il Volo. They've gone on to international stardom, including a requisite appearance on "American Idol"  and a completely random cameo on the series finale of "Entourage."
The members of Il Volo, which can be translated as "The Flight," will live up to their name as they head overseas for a North American tour in October. The trio will team up for eight shows with Barbra Streisand, but sadly for verklempt Barbra fans, Il Volo will be flying solo when they play the Westchester County Center.
Tickets for Il Volo's show go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Aug. 29. On Wednesday, a Ticketmaster presale begins at 10 a.m., and an American Express presale starts at 5 p.m.
Il Volo represents the newest show to be added to the concert lineup at the Westchester County Center, which has had a rebirth this year as a performance venue after decades of hosting more common fare such as trade conventions, sporting events and graduation ceremonies.
The Beach Boys kicked off this year's concert series, followed by the rock band Boston and the Rock ‘n’ Blues Fest (featuring Johnny Winter, the Edgar Winter Band, Rick Derringer and Leslie West of Mountain). Aretha Franklin will play the venue Nov. 13.
Whoopi Goldberg postponed her County Center performance — originally slated for Sept. 14 — until Dec. 7, according to Irwin Kornfeld, a promoter for the concert series. Ticket holders who cannot attend the Dec. 7 are eligible for a refund. Although those are all of the performances that have been announced to date, Kornfeld says he's working on booking a few more before the year is through.
