Gianluca Ginoble, from Roseto to the Madison Square Garden
I have to confess, sometimes you don't pinch yourself to make sure you are not dreaming?
It all happened quickly, in four to five years, the greedy and so you think you're dreaming of, for example, when we're on tour and see all those fans who are waiting in airports and outside the hotels. I often say to my father, but do you realize what happened and there? I believe, however, that he was a humble person, same as always, attached to family values.
The audience, fans, journalists. See all the exciting aspect of your experience success, money, luck of traveling the world and always come through the front door. But what are the things which are not seen and perhaps weigh too much?
From outside it seems all roses and out, however, is difficult though ... I like it. When you feel tired in the evening and then have to get up at three in the morning because maybe you have to go get a plane, but ... I like it. It's because I'm young, I'm 18 maybe is a little more difficult to dad (laughs). Do you think a day in the morning we woke up at 7 and we were in Orlando, Florida, more in the afternoon we went to Charlotte and evening in New York. Three cities in the United States in 12 hours. Or, another time in three days we wre in Los Angeles, Berlin and Miami ... It's not all rosy as it may seem, you are in a completely different world. But despite the difficulties, which do exist, and difficult aspects, I'm lucky, I have had the experiences that I made me grow quickly, a different life, I remain in a country. I learned Spanish, English, everyday know new people ...

For Il Volo’s Gianluca Ginoble, everything is beautiful
“They’re, like, opera singers, and they’re amazing” is how Ari’s teenage daughter summed up Il Volo on the series finale of HBO’s Entourage, and while that may seem an apt description, group member Gianluca Ginoble is quick to say that it’s not quite true.
“The Three Tenors sang opera, no?” he says over the phone in his charming Italian accent from his Vancouver hotel room, referring to the Spanish and Italian singers, a common comparison. “And we can’t sing opera. I don’t want to sing opera. We sing an operatic pop. We sing in harmony.”
In Italy, they don’t really love this kind of music. I don’t know why
Il Volo — Ginoble, 18, Ignazio Boschetto, also 18, Piero Barone, 20 — have a worldwide following for the operatic sensibility they bring to pop songs as well as for their beautiful harmonies on traditional Italian songs. The three met in 2009 on American Idol-esque Italian TV show Ti Lascio Una Canzone. Ginoble won the competition, but things went so well when producers asked the trio to sing O Sole Mio that the they formed Il Volo (Italian for “flight”).

Review Il Volo at the Saroyan Theatre
You don’t have to search long and far on the Internet for times in which fans of Il Volo — the pop-opera singing trio that enthused a packed Saroyan Theatre Friday with a peppy, crowd-pleasing performance — rebuke the local music critic for not “getting it.” You know the online comment drill when it comes to transgressing reviewer: draw, quarter, eviscerate, turn into Italian meatballs, etc. The chief fan complaint: Critics treat Il Volo like it’s opera, and it isn’t. Don’t judge a group for what it isn’t trying to be.
([Note] Team Il Volo is not associated with this review)
And you know what? I’ll buy it. Il Volo isn’t opera. The group sings lots of songs in Italian, yes, and even some opera classics, but in no way, shape or form is this meant to represent the highly trained, specialized style that allows mere mortals to boom over full orchestras and fill 2,000-seat halls unamplified. Il Volo is pop-opera, and while its repertoire might lean toward the operatic — especially to American ears — the mentality is heavily pop, from the format (three adorable young guys wooing the audience) to the delivery (five musicians, heavily amplified and synthesized).

Il Volo brings hit pop-opera to Comerica Theatre
The Italian lads who comprise pop-opera trio Il Volo are definitely men now: Youngest member Gianluca Ginoble turned 18 this year. But the guys show no signs of shaking up their family-friendly, PBS-ready image anytime soon.
“When we have free time, we enjoy our Playstations,” says Ginoble, caught at a Vancouver hotel before the launch of a North American tour. “We have fun, like all teenagers and people 18, 19 and 20.”
The group still travels with parents in tow. Baritone Ginoble and tenor Ignazio Boschetto are accompanied by their moms; second tenor Piero Barone brings his father. The entourage journeys around the globe, with the group boasting a strong following that extends through Latin America, Australia, Asia, Europe and North America.
“Everything is going good,” says Ginoble, who speaks Italian, Spanish and charmingly accented English. “We hope to continue in this way. This is our third tour of the United States, and we will sing at the best venues, like Radio City Music Hall. This is a dream come true to do this live and in such a short time.”
The three singers first performed together on Italian TV in 2009 during a talent show, and stayed together once their run on the series ended. A 2011 debut album reached the Top 10 in the States; a second studio album, “We Are Love,” appeared late last year. The group also issues releases aimed at the Spanish-speaking market; this year’s “Mas Que Amor” topped the Latin pop-album charts in the States.

Il Volo singer charms in talk about Fresno concert
Can you blame a guy for wanting to kick back a little? Some downtime with his beloved grandfather, hanging out with his 13-year-old younger brother (who's already taller than he), soccer every day with his buddies, some free moments to wander the meandering streets of his quaint hilltop village — it's all a nice break.
"I'm enjoying my vacation — for a month!" exclaims Gianluca Ginoble, on the phone from Italy.
But don't get the 18-year-old Il Volo singer wrong. He's excited to get back to the crushing schedule of an international pop-opera star.
After a whirlwind couple of years in which the trio has criss-crossed the globe, including concerts and TV appearances, in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and South America, the three singers — Ginoble, Piero Barone and Ignazio Boschetto — are embarking on a new American tour.
Fresno is one of four West Coast appearances scheduled, along with Vancouver, Concord and Los Angeles.
The group plays Friday in a presentation by Fresno Grand Opera at the Saroyan Theatre.
The funny thing is, Ginoble says, that Il Volo gets more attention overseas than in his native country.
"We are not so famous in Italy," he says.

5 awesome reasons to see Il Volo
1. They’re taking off.
Il Volo, which translates to “the flight” in English, chose its name based on the boys’ desire to spread their wings. And now that the band has taken off from Italian soil, Il Volo has landed full force in America. After the international release of its first, self-titled album, "Il Volo" debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Classical Album chart.
2. They’re ‘Idol’ status.
Almost immediately after dropping their first album internationally, the guys headed to the U.S. for a performance during the final three results show on American Idol’s Season 10. The group performed a cover of “O sole mio,” which translates to “my sunshine.” The song is an 1800s Neapolitan song, which Il Volo released as a single.
3. They’re do-gooders.
Post-earthquake, the trio participated in the charity single, “We Are the World 25 for Haiti.” The song, a remake of “We Are The World” by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, debuted at the 2010 Winter Olympics opening ceremony, and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Il Volo also participated in the President’s Star Charity show in Singapore and performed “O sole mio” to help raise funds for the handicapped.

Il Volo pop opera teens to record two PBS concerts at Fillmore Miami Beach (with rehearsal video)
Il Volo, the teenage Italian pop opera stars who last fall toured North America with Barbra Streisand, wish everyone happy holidays.
Not Easter or Passover. Merry Christmas.

“We feel very Christmas-y in March,” says Richard Jay-Alexander of Miami Beach, their concert director who also guided them on the Streisand tour.
The young men say they’re excited about working again with RJA.
“We are really lucky because we have another grandpa,” jokes Barone. “We didn’t know that. A big grandpa — Richard Jay-Alexander.”

Il Volo: "We mixed pop with opera"
How did you meet?
We met two years ago during the talent show "ti lascio una canzone", each singing solo . There were 39 contestants. Gradually we were talking and we are now in this project that excites us.
Why you decided to record the song "Constantemente Mia" with Belinda?
We wanted to have a partnership with an American artist. We are looking for several months until we fond Belinda. We liked her style. We mixed opera with pop.
How does it feel to have songs in duet with singers Placido Domingo and Eros Ramazzotti?
Incredible. Two stars of our country. Placido Domingo is the best known and beloved singer in the opera genre. With it we have the theme "Il Canto". And I hear Ramazzotti since I was child . It is an honor to sing a duet with him, the song "Così".
You also sing rock songs in English.
Yes most famous versions are the bands Aerosmith and U2.
Do you like rock?
Yes is what I hear most. My favorite artists are Elvis Presley, Stevie Wonder and AC / DC.
Many fans are wondering where Il Volo buy your clothes.
Really? (laughs). My favorite clothes are T-shirts and jeans. The Armani brand I love, but in the end what I really like is to feel comfortable.
