Il Volo: "We are humble and simple"

"We do pop , but we are not One Direction , sing opera, but we are the Three Tenors . Ours is a particular style . " The members of Il Volo are very clear . Theirs is a very special phenomenon . With privileged voices linked to the lyrical and very cool presence , a combination enough to sell thousands of records and fill theaters worldwide . "Grandmothers , mothers and daughters follow us," they say . And it's true . In chronological order Piero Barone ( 20 ) , Ignazio Boschetto ( 19) and Gianluca Ginoble ( 18 ) will today the first of three shows at the Grand Rex after appearing in Chile as part of a Latin American tour . Wherever they go, these three guys devastate Italian sympathy . Besides singing in Italian, English , Spanish , French and German , fluent in several languages and , if dazzle singing on stage , off stage , bring out the same ease to communicate with others.

They met on a reality television in their country, for almost five years , and a producer who saw the chemistry that could arise and put together the trio with the two tenors ( Barone and Boschetto ) and baritone ( Ginoble ) to classic melodic pop and ballads with lyrical touch (invented by Andrea Boccelli , as they say) that never fails. " It is romantic music that everyone likes. That's never going to die , "they say . And so , for example , come from doing 36 shows in the United States. But despite the fame , success, and the fans who idolize them are not like other groups of " teens" . They talk , make jokes and comment as any teenager . " Ignazio and I are from Sicily ,Gianluca from Abruzzo , near Rome . We come from small towns and we know what it family and friends mean, "says Piero . " That makes us keep our feet on the ground. We traveled with our parents. And all the time they make us see reality. "

Right. A few minutes later , in front of the Sheraton hotel pool Santiago , Barone father appears and handles himself to serve tea with honey to the " bambinos " . When not a parent , is one of the mothers . " At night , when we go to sleep , they are the ones that remind us who we are and where we came from . We are humble and simple . What we do is not thanks to anyone, is thanks God and our families who always support us because they want the best for us , "says Piero .

"We need moral support for this to go through the world is wonderful, but sometimes you feel bad and all I want is to be home . So having our father or mamma on tour is very important, "says Gianluca .

None had studied singing before and the relationship with music was natural, since childhood . The three learned to sing by listening opera grandparents . "We have completely different voices and styles . Just as our personalities , "says Gianluca is the" heartthrob " of the trio and has as referring to Frank Sinatra and Michael Bublé . " But when we sing in harmony , I can say really , our voices are a very special sound ." "The mix is rare " admits Ignazio , who studied opera and is defined as " the craziest " . " At least , it is most common in people our age . "When we started this project , our idea was to reach people our age . And the best part is that our shows are from 5 to 70 years. We have songs that grandmas like, but young guys sing them too . I think that's the key , "says Piero , also a student of opera and Pavarotti fan .

When working , it is they who decide , with their producers , which songs to include in the repertoire. " We are very different , but we agree on that," says Piero who 's the one to " place order " when Gianluca is distracted or Ignazio makes jokes . " Deciding what songs goes in each album is the most important." "Sure, we want to do is love people . So it is essential to know what songs to include "adds Ignazio . With a career that is just beginning and far to go , Il Volo , has plenty of room to dream. Gianluca would love to also be an actor. " Ma , sing, Gianluca , sing" Piero says jokingly . " Yes , but why not do both ? There are many artists who do. And I'd like to act as well. " Its sleek style italic profiles him perfectly for that option. Meanwhile, his trio mates , more casual and athletic , studying classical singing , with the same teacher in Bologna . " My dream is to become an opera singer. What we do now I love it , but I know I can sing opera learning anything after . " To Ignazio , the option is not defined yet. "They are the two options: either pop or dedicate to the lyrical . And the two I like. But I think I lean more to the opera because it is more comprehensive training . Taking our voices can sing pop opera much better. " In the talk , Ignazio remembered an issue of Cristian Castro on the plane heard and liked . And Gianluca jumps quickly : " I do not really like this style : I prefer to Juanes or Alejandro Sanz " . " We really like the Spanish to sing because it's like Italian, very romantic. And the South American fans are the best for their warmth ," says Piero .

For Il Volo , groups like One Direction or Justin Bieber singers are not competition. They know that the public share and clarify : "We have different styles and in fact, buy their music. They are very professional and do wonderful things and wish them good luck , "says Piero . " They are lucky " , Gianluca intervenes . " They do their thing and we do ours ." " Justin Bieber puts the track, but we, with our music gender we go sing live either way ," says Ignazio , which is still taking antibiotics for the flu and spent the night with a fever.

Eager to occur in Argentina , say they love what they do. " Nothing is easy in life and have a wonderful time and the world , there are times when we miss our home. But we can not complain because we are doing what we love . What more could you want? " .

  1. In the statement above, Piero says South Americans fans are the best for their warmth. That is ok but, I hope it doesn't mean he thinks they make the best audience too cause I think the USA does a real good job of showing their love and support.

    1. Don't take anything said in an interview to heart. They have to try and keep everyone happy. South America will be easier for them they know the language well. Plus the North American audiences have a lot of older people in it, like me.

    2. I too was part of that older audience. My sister as well and we applaud, yell and scream as loud as the young people. I get it though! Thanks for listening.

    3. I believe the same because I too am a part of that generation, but they are careful to say the right things on tour. They are gentlemen . I actually have never ever heard them say one critical thing of their venues. I am so glad that they stayed true to the early" In Flight " music. They made up this program. I was in heaven.
