Il Volo wowing audiences with operatic-pop

Il Volo might be a "boy band," but it is unlike any you have ever heard. "Il Volo" means "to fly" in Italian, and these three Italian teenagers take flight with music called "operatic pop." Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto, and Gianluca Ginoble sing popular songs with the quality of opera stars.
Their beautiful, rich voices are more like the Three Tenors than the Jonas Brothers. In their songs they share solo parts and offer wonderful harmonies, uplifting their audiences with each moment full of emotion and drama.
Il Volo will perform at Easton's State Theatre on Oct. 15, in between dates as the opener for Barbra Streisand on her national tour. The boys will be backed by a band of keyboards, bass, drums and guitars.
Success has come quickly for the trio. Its first, self-titled CD was released last year in the United States. A PBS special, "Il Volo Takes Flight: Live from the Detroit Opera House," was made into a CD and DVD. The group has appeared on "American Idol," "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "The Today Show," "Good Morning America," "The Talk," "Ellen" and "Rachael Ray."

Dopo Philadelphia i ragazzi seguiranno Barbra Streisand nelle successive tappe.
Il Volo è reduce dal tour targato Usa che ha registrato una media di 4000 paganti a sera in 32 città degli Stati Uniti.

Il Volo: Opera for the Belieber Set?

If there's one things American audiences have proven about our tastes for opera (or, more accurately, opera lite), is that we love it when it comes in a poppier package.
Ask a random person on the street to name acts from this genre, and they'll probably rattle off Andrea Bocelli, the Three Tenors, or maybe Il Divo. (Never mind the fact that these artists often perform standards and general ballads over proper opera).

What these artists and their ilk have offered is, to their credit, accessible in a way that allows fans to focus on the beauty of a particular song or voice. It doesn't take a lot of intellectual unpacking or much knowledge of a dramatic plot to enjoy Bocelli's voice taking flight. Of course, the good looks and press-savviness don't hurt, either.

Italian teen opera trio Il Volo to perform at Beacon Theater

WHO: Il Volo.
WHAT: Italian teen pop-opera trio.
WHEN: 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
WHERE: The Beacon Theater, 2124 Broadway at 74th Street, Manhattan;             800-653-8000       or ticketmaster.com.
HOW MUCH: $53.15 to $116.60.
FOR MORE INFORMATION: ilvolomusic.com.
Leave it to the Italians to do things a little classier.
Il Volo, a Roman boy band gaining popularity in the U.S., specializes in heart-melting classics like "O Sole Mio" ("My Sunshine") and "Smile," a Nat "King" Cole standard.
When the trio, composed of Piero Barone, 18, Ignazio Boschetto, 17, and Gianluca Ginoble, 17, sings, you're reminded of the lush, mature voices of Andrea Bocelli or Josh Groban. But their fresh-faced look is nothing short of the Italian Jonas Brothers.
Il Volo – which means "Flight" – is the epitome of cross-generational appeal: After appearances last year on "American Idol" and the series final of "Entourage," the trio will open eight shows for Barbra Streisand, including Brooklyn's Barclays Center on Oct. 11 and 13.

Soaring talent: Il Volo taking the music world by storm

The Italian trio Il Volo has been jokingly referred to by other names since exploding on the music scene three years ago after winning an Italian talent show.
The Teenage Tenors (although they aren’t all tenors), the Italian Jonas Brothers and The New Bocellis are some of the names they’ve been tagged with. But Gianluca Ginoble, the handsome baritone of the group with the full Elvis Presley hair and bedroom eyes, doesn’t care for any of them.
“We are Il Volo, we are not those other names,” said Ginoble, 17, in a telephone interview from Chicago where the group also including tenors Piero Barone, 19, and Ignazio Boschetto, 18, had just finished a show before heading to Detroit and then Toronto and then Ottawa on a North American tour.
Il Volo brings, what the group calls, “operatic pop” to the National Arts Centre on Tuesday for the first time. And they return on Oct. 20, playing on a bill with headliner Barbra Streisand and trumpet player Chris Botti at Scotiabank Place.
The group’s name is Il Volo — Italian word meaning flight — and it is a perfect metaphor to the meteoric rise of these young Italians.

Never forget to take flight

“Never Forget ‘Il Volo’” were the last words the three young Italian tenors said before leaving the stage at the Essar Centre last night.
And it would be hard to try as they proved why they are an international sensation at last’s night’s performance at the Essar centre.
Nominated for Best New Artist and Best New Album by a Duo or a Group by the Latin Grammy Awards just last year, the young men have reached world-wide stardom all before the age of eighteen.
As approximately 2500 local patrons entered into the stadium, the excitement of the viewers was ever present as they patiently waited for the three teenage boys to take the stage.
With bright white lights cascading over Piero Baron (17), Ignazio Boschetto (16), and Gianluca Ginoble (16), the audience could not hold back their admiration and offered epic applause and resounding cheers of praise.
Members in the audience were found clapping and singing along to several well-known and classical songs including the upbeat “Finiculi, Funicula” and “O Sole Mio,” which the band performed in an encore performance.
